While some people can't play games that don't offer a serious challenge, others just want to relax. There are plenty of casual gamers out there, and Blixi is a game made especially for them.
Your goal is to move circles around on a grid, using the arrow keys, in order to merge two or more of the same color. What sets it apart from other similar games is that you move all the circles at once, relying on the edge of the grid to stop and merge them.
You start the game with just a couple of circles on the grid. As you move them around using the arrow keys, more will appear. You need to try to get two or more identical circles in a line, at which point you can move them again to merge them.
To complete a round, you will need to merge a certain number of circles of a certain color. This color seems to be determined randomly, but there will always be plenty of circles of all colors to work with.
The game looks great, both on macOS and on mobile. It has a simple but polished look, and the animations are also very smooth. As expected, you can choose between a dark and a light theme.
The sound effects can be disabled, which I tend to do in these types of games, as they usually get annoying after a while. In Blixi, however, they're really not bad. You still might get tired of them, but at least you have the option to turn them off.
While a casual game doesn't need to be difficult, Blixi is too easy. You can get through levels without really thinking about what you're doing, and it's almost impossible to actually lose.
Moving up the leaderboard could give you some additional motivation, but it's so easy that you'll get a higher score just by playing for long enough. Blixi needs to be a bit more difficult, as it isn't much of a game if there is absolutely no skill required to pass through the levels.
Provided the difficulty is adjusted, or a more challenging mode is added, this game could be a real success. The base gameplay is very enjoyable, but you don't have much of a reason to keep playing if you're not challenged in any way.
