BrightnessSwitch is one of those simplistic and extremely handy apps that you could always use. A free, open-source tool that can easily be integrated into your desktop enhancement starter pack.

As perfectly described by its name, the app's purpose is to offer a quick way of changing your PC theme, from dark to light, and the other way around.

The program is completely free and integrates perfectly with your Windows OS. It was written in C# mainly and the result, the executable, is pretty small in size. Also, given the fact it is open-source, you can check its source code on GitHub, give feedback to the developer, or contribute to the project.

The tool has a limited number of options and a simplistic menu. The tray icon allows you to manually switch the themes, exit the app, and enable/disable automatic startup, once Windows starts.

The app's internal mechanisms access your light sensor and, based on the ambient light, the app can switch the theme of your Windows. However, if your device does not have a light sensor, you are left with the quick, manual command for changing the theme, from the tool's tray icon. Plus, it would be indicated for your to power on the application in admin mode for avoiding any permission-related issues (right-click the tool's shortcut and choose 'Run as Administrator').
