More often than not, adding emojis, fractions, special characters or foreign currency symbols can be a cumbersome task in Windows. Character Picker is a simple and straightforward application for Windows that provides a small window from which you can choose between dozens of special characters.

The application does not require installation, so simply download, decompress and run the app to get started. It is worth mentioning that the executable needs to be in the same folder as the text document file in order for the app to work, but that is basically the only requirement.

The app comes with a minimalistic interface that consists of a search window where you can type in the name of the character you need. The tool provides several options, so you can simply select the one you need. The characters file can be customized, but keep in mind that the formatting is one line per character.

The app does not come with a dedicated hotkey to run it. The developer recommends that you bind a keyboard shortcut to make things more convenient. The downside is that the hotkey cannot be created without a dedicated tool, such as AutoHotKey, for instance, so that you can create a script to run the tool with Windows startup.

Granted, the possibility to use emojis has become an integral part of Windows with the launch of the so-called Fall Creators Update. However, if you attempted to enter special characters or emojis, you probably noticed that the feature is quite limited.
