Coherence L-t Calculator is a tiny yet very efficient utility that provides users with a straightforward way of calculating the coherence length and time of a light source.
For starters, it’s worth noting that the coherence length is the distance over which the waveform maintains constant phase or the distance that the light needs to cross during the coherence time. The coherence time of a light source is the actual duration of time over which the emitted waveform maintains phase.
The application works based on data provided by the user, namely the medium’s refractive index, the bandwidth of the light source in terms of wavelength and the peak wavelength. After introducing the data, users are provided with the following options: to calculate the coherence time (expressed in nanoseconds) and length (shown in nanometers) for the Gaussian spectrum, or the same for the Lorentzian spectrum.
The Gaussian spectrum is when the width of the peak is determined by homogeneous broadening, and the Lorentzian one is when the width of the peak by non-homogeneous broadening.
The application can be installed in just a few seconds thanks to a typical Windows installer. The only thing that users need to be aware of before installing the app is the fact that it requires .NET Framework 4.6.2 or later.
The interface is pretty basic with everything right in from of the users, no other menus or other similar types of GUI elements. To calculate the coherence length and time of a light source, users simply need to install, open the app, and input the data in the three fields at the top of the main window.
