Desktop Reminder is a task scheduler and manager for anyone interested in keeping a tight leash on activities of any type, be they related to work, hobbies, or personal life. While this 'to-do manager' niche is more than saturated, it is rather hard to bring something new to the game. In this case, the program comes with the ability to have early alarms that can sum up to months. Also, creating a task requires less input from the user, meaning more time saved while making plans.

Start filling the empty canvas by defining and adding new tasks. A task can have a long description, a sound cue, URLs or attached documents, or various actions based on executables or HTML files. A color, a category, and a note are required next. The note seems to replace a short description or the name, and it's placed at the end of the task, as the focus is mostly time/date-related.

Speaking of time and date, the task creator reserved a lot of space for that. You can set the date via the calendar, but you can also advance that date with one day, a week, or a month, thanks to several shortcut buttons that meet those roles. The same goes for adjusting the time and alarm.

If you have urgent tasks, you can handle those with a different approach. Adding the urgency status to an entry will first mark it with a yellow warning sign. That happens way before the start time for the tasks comes, giving you more space to take decisions and act upon them.

The program starts on the Tasks tab, which determines the default item listing. However, you can switch to Calendar, in order to see the tasks as small notes inside a classic calendar UI; or Notepad, with a more simplistic view than overall. The view mode does not affect task creation or customization, as the toolbar is permanently there, no matter the tab.

In summary, Desktop Reminder is a handy task manager for anyone interested in planning and tracking their upcoming actions. It can also be used as a reminder, due to its urgency markers and alarm abilities. Whatever the case, Desktop Reminder looks like a strong enough competitor in an already overflowing market.
