Some downloaded video games and applications have install and other kinds of instructions written down in .nfo or .diz files. Modern text editors are capable of opening files with this format.
However, if you're interested in a straightforward NFO and DIZ viewer, you can take a look at DOS Viewer. It can be easily used by anyone. As the name suggests, the program is wrapped in a command-line interface, ideal for users who want to avoid the unnecessary visual elements that come with a graphical interface.
There is no installation necessary since it's possible to unzip the downloaded archive and double-click the .exe to reach the main app window right away. You can also keep the tool stored on your USB flash drive to be able to run it on any PC without setup.
Once you have the main window in front, you can open files with the DIZ and NFO type. However, it's also possible to load TXT and ANS file.
There are no kind of editing features available, so DOS Viewer can be used for reading purposes only. If you're interested in modifying text, you have to look for another kind of software.
According to the developer, all characters are displayed correctly, and that includes ASCII art. Although it was meant for older Windows, ranging from 95 to XP, our tests have shown that it works perfectly well on Windows 10, too.
We haven't experienced any compatibility issues during our evaluation. As we expected, DOS Viewer had minimal impact on the computer's performance, running on a low amount of system resources. It may not have an abundance of features but it delivers a simple and straightforward solution for opening NFO and DIZ files.
