Made as the portable counterpart of DVKit and based on Eclipse, DVKit Portable is feature-rich software application that comes ready with handy components and tools for helping you create, develop and produce SystemVerilog, Python, C++ or TCL apps, as well as to verify the projects' design.
Since there is no setup kit involved, you can drop the program files to a custom location on the disk and just click the executable to launch DVKit. There is also the possibility to save it to a pen drive or other mass storage unit to be able to run it on any PC with minimum effort and no other installers.
Worth keeping in mind is that, unlike most installers, this tool does not alter Windows registry settings or create additional files on the HDD without your permission, so it doesn't leave any files or invalid registry entries behind after removing it.
At startup, it it necessary to indicate the full path of the workspace that you'll be coding it, and this can be set as default. The interface looks professional and neatly organized. You can start a new project using a wizard for C/C++, Java, JavaScript, Perl, PyDev, shell script, TCL or others.
DVKit contains a project explorer and hierarchy view, along with a code editor and design viewer that can be easily toggled. Syntax highlighting is supported. You can add bookmarks and tasks, locate something using a search function, activate a content assistance tool and word completion mode, apply quick fixes to the code, insert comments, as well as shift blocks of text to the left or right.
It is also possible to search for files across project directories, run and debug the project, or save the project to file and resume it later. DVKit also lets you create, manage and run configurations, whether we are talking about C/C++, Iron Python, Java applets, launch groups, TCL scripts or testing, or others.
No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the software utility did not hang or crash. It has a good response time to commands and low impact on system resources. Taking into account its resourceful options and settings, DVKit should meet the requirements of most users looking for a reliable programming environment that's also portable.
