Excel to QIF Converter is a simple application with a name that speaks for itself. Its main purpose is to help you convert Excel spreadsheets to QIF format, which is compatible with the most popular finance management applications, such as Quicken, GnuCash or Microsoft Money.

The program comes in the form of an Excel addin, with a compatibility range that extends from Excel 97 to the most recent Office versions (2013). Once installed, you can find it in the 'Add-ins' tab of Excel.

Excel to QIF Converter can only process worksheets that include columns containing the transaction date and the amount, alongside other data. It comes with a verification option that allows you to check the currently opened worksheet in order to detect any incompatibility issues, such as cells that are not formatted correctly. Unless all the requirements are met, the conversion process cannot be carried out successfully and an error message is displayed.

The addin is compatible with all versions of MS Money and Quicken, but an account is required for exporting your spreadsheet for the latter. Prior to proceeding to the actual conversion, you must select the date format to use by choosing from various options, including the Quicken special format.

You can export the entire worksheet content or just the selected range of rows, as well as instruct the application to consider every row as a separate transaction. Optionally, signs can be flipped on transaction amounts, in case checks and credit card charges are positive.

The location of the output QIF file is automatically copied to the clipboard, making it easier for you to paste its path in the 'Import' window of Quicken or other application.

Excel to QIF Converter can also generate a QIF file containing the security price history, but the export options are similar.

Excel to QIF Converter impresses through practicability, allowing you to easily import data on financial transactions, credit card and bank accounts into Quicken or other program that supports the QIF format.
