File identifier

File identifier is a simple command-line utility that enables you to easily identify files of various formats, as well as to extract metadata from PDF, PNG, RIFF, EXE, and others. It caters to professional users, since it integrates advanced settings.

While most users prefer working with graphical interfaces for performing different tasks, some of them would rather work in a Command Prompt dialog, as a few written lines are usually enough to get the job done.

Command-line tools do not require installation, so they can be run on any workstation with minimum effort. They are typically low on the system resources, without slowing down performance or affecting user activity.

File identifier allows you to print out some debug information, perform a standard or extended identification search, generate an SFV report file, calculate an SFV-compatible CRC-32 checksum of the file, enable verbose mode, specify the codepage for the text output, extract metadata to file, and others.

As we have expected, File identifier is very low-demanding when it comes to CPU and RAM. Unfortunately, the app has not been updated for a pretty long time. Nevertheless, it packs some interesting features when it comes to file identification.
