Considering that programming for Arduino entails knowing how to write code in C or C++, it’s not exactly an easy task. In fact, you need a very good understanding of the concepts and syntax to ensure the writing and structure of the code is correct and functional.

Glitch is a tool that simplifies this process significantly, as it provides a graphical interface where you can define variables, functions and logical operations via visual block diagrams.

The app doesn’t require installation, so download, and you are ready to start working on your first project. The interface is user-friendly and consists of three main tabs, Categories, diagram working area and widget property editor. As you probably hinted, you will do most of the work via the first two, by taking the desired element from categories and placing it in the working area.

Fine-tuning the elements that are part of the visual programming can be done in the Widget Properly Editor. To access it, right click on any block and access the ‘Floating Context Menu’ option.

The idea behind the app is to offer a unique approach to designing Arduino programs. For starters, all the work can be done conveniently by dragging and dropping visual blocks. This can be particularly appealing for beginners, as it reduces the learning curve associated with traditional text-based programming.

While the app provides a user-friendly environment and eliminates the need for extensive coding knowledge, it does not replace the fundamental understanding of programming principles. After all, you still need to understand how to properly utilize the visual blocks and make meaningful connections between different components in your programs.
