What is Kompile FOR LINUX?

Kompile

Kompile is a handy tool that makes it super easy to handle configurations, compile, and install source tarballs right from your KDE interface.

What Does Kompile Do?

When you go through the normal steps to compile and install the Kompile sources (you know, like using configure && make && make install), new options pop up in Konqueror's action menu for different tar-based compressed archives. This includes formats like .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz, and .tar.bz2.

Key Features of Kompile

Here are some cool features:

  • One-click installation: Just hit one button to install a tarball using the default commands (decompression -> compile && make && make install).

  • One-click uninstall: Easily remove an installed application from a tarball with one click (decompression -> compile && make uninstall).

  • KDE Integration: It fits right into Konqueror's actions menu for common source archives.

  • Tray Minimization: You can minimize it to your system tray for quick access.

  • Status Updates: Get real-time updates on installation progress right from the tray icon.

  • Console Output: Want details? You can check installation progress in the console output view.

Simplified Operation Selection

If you're not a fan of command lines, no worries! You can directly pick operations from the Konqueror action menu. Here’s how it works:

  • Automatic package installation: Install a package with default settings easily. It's just like typing #kompile /archive/path/sourcetarball.tar.bz2.

  • Automatic package uninstallation: Uninstalling is just as easy with defaults set. Equivalent to typing #kompile --uninstall /archive/path/sourcetarball.tar.bz2.
