What is LTOOLS FOR LINUX?

LTOOLS

LTOOLS is a handy set of command line tools that lets you read and write Linux extended 2 filesystems right from DOS or Windows. So, if you're on Windows XP, 2000, NT, ME, or even older versions like 9.x or 3.x and need to access that vital file sitting on your Linux disk, LTOOLS has your back! Plus, if your Linux system isn’t booting up properly, you can use it to repair things from DOS.

Accessing Your Linux Files

If you're not a fan of command line tools (totally understandable!), there's LTOOLSgui. This is a Java-based graphical user interface that gives you an Explorer-like experience to browse through your local or remote Linux files. Another option is LTOOLSnet, which is built on .NET and also lets you access files easily.

Web Access with LREADsrv

If Java or .NET isn't your thing either, don’t worry! You can use your web browser as a graphical frontend for the LTOOLS. The package includes LREADsrv, a simple web server that makes both your Linux and DOS files available in an easy-to-navigate view. With LREADsrv, you can also access your files remotely!

Compatibility with UNIX Systems

Starting from version 3.3, the complete LTOOLS suite runs under UNIX and Solaris too! It’s super versatile!

Powerful Command Line Programs

The core of the LTOOLS package consists of several command line programs you can run from DOS or a DOS window in Windows 9x/ME or NT/2000/XP. These tools mimic popular Linux commands such as 'ls', 'cp', 'rm', 'chmod', 'chown', and 'ln'. Here’s what you can do:

  • List Linux files and directories: Use the command ldir.

  • Copy files between systems: Use lread for reading and lwrite for writing.

  • Delete or rename files: Use ldel to delete and lren to rename.

  • Create symbolic links: Just type lln.

  • Create new directories: Use lmkdir.

  • Edit file permissions: Change rights with lchange.

  • Select default directory: Set it with wcd.

  • Select default drive: Use the command wdrive.

  • Your hard disk setup: Check it out with wdir -part.

The great thing about these UNIX-like tools is they come in one executable file that takes various command line parameters. To make things easier for you, there are batch files included so no need to memorize all those commands!

LTOOLS Under UNIX/Linux Systems

You’ll also find a Unix/Linux version of the LTOOLS available. This means if you're using Solaris or even another version of Linux,
