When sharing your computer with other users, privacy might be a challenging topic. If you want to make sure nobody snoops around your documents, you can simply place them inside an encrypted virtual vault using an app like Safy Storage.
The software solution comes with a straightforward interface that is meant to encourage even those with little PC skills to protect their private files.
First off, you need to create a new encrypted storage by assigning it a name and selecting its location on your computer.
When it comes to specifying the password, you need to make sure it is strong enough so that other people cannot guess it. But it should also be easy to remember as this is the only way to access your vault.
The main window of Safy Storage displays two panels side-by-side, one for the encrypted storage, the other one for the folders on your computer.
You can use either drag and drop to copy files and folders to your vault, or you can import them by selecting the corresponding option from their right-click menu.
A handy feature of Safy Storage is that you can add files not only from the local hard disk, but also from connected optical drives or mapped network drives.
Regardless of the medium, you can explore any folder's contents, choose the files you want to encrypt, then import them in bulk.
Safy Storage can help you protect your documents with very little effort on your side. However, you cannot modify the encryption algorithm.
Also, it would be useful to have the app automatically lock the currently open vault if no user activity is detected and the PC goes idle. Thus, if you accidentally left your storage open, your data would not be exposed.
