ShortcutFolder

ShortcutFolder is a small tool catering to people who keep folders with countless programs inside. One of the most annoying things about an overflowing folder is the time it takes to scroll through and find the desired shortcut. Of course, you can place shortcut icons on your screen, but that is not the best course of action if you have a single monitor setup.

ShortcutFolder is simple in both shape and action. There is no UI to it, and it doesn't need one. Also, the app requires no installation. Unzip the archive, launch the app, choose the target folder and that's all.

Even if you have a folder where you dump any type of file, shortcuts of anything else besides programs won't be taken into consideration. To test this fact, you can try to operate on a folder that has only documents, pictures, or anything unrelated to software. Nothing will happen.

On the flip side, if you have a dedicated software directory, a folder full of shortcuts will be created within ShortcutFolder parent directory. Inside, you will find newly created shortcuts of any program that might reside in a specific location. Why would you need it?

When you think about it, there's no real reason to even consider this tool. Still, no utility is truly useless, unless it's completely broken. ShortcutFolders work as intended, and those who don't have enough time on their hands to clean up folders or organize shortcuts might find it useful.

Extracting program shortcuts might not be a daily task, but users with cluttered systems can get an idea about what apps reside on their drive, especially when they are not aware of some of them.

ShortcutFolder is not a life-saving tool, it's far from it, but it can come in handy in specific situations like having to identify all apps within a folder instantly, avoiding all the manual labor.
