Organizing items and building and maintaining a structure between them can prove to be a difficult task, especially if you need to deal with multiple categories and subcategories.
Putting them in simple text or an Excel file might seem like a good solution, but if the list goes on and on, you will eventually lose track of things. For such situations, you are better off using Sia.
I'm not sure how good she is with this stuff, but no. The one I'm talking about is a program meant to help people with creating lists and trees for a large number of items, based on the parent-child system.
To start off, you will be given two items: root, the main parent, and home, the child one. If those names would not fit your list, you can obviously modify them.
From there on, you can create as many children as you need. They can have whatever names you want, and even a link between them and their respective parent, to remind yourself of why it is there.
When you first open it and have a look around, you may get the feeling that it can overwhelm you, as it is not very intuitive. But once you've played around with it for a bit and figure out how it works, you will love it.
It can be used for small lists of 10-20 items, or you can put hundreds or thousands of them. The nice part about it is that no matter how big the list becomes, Sia will always fit your tree in the dimensions of the desktop, saving you from having to scroll through endless text.
But if you are having difficulties finding an item you wrote down, you can use the search option, and it will be sure to point out the one you are looking for.
It may take a bit of time to get used to working your way around Sia, but in the end, it can prove to be very useful. Rather than having a long list that would take me minutes to scroll through, I believe it would be easier to have everything right in front of me.
