If you have more than a few applications or windows open at the same time on your desktop, switching to a specific one can be challenging. You can, of course, use Alt-Tab, but cycling through every open window is quite tedious.

SwitchBlade is a tiny application that lets you do things a bit differently – when using a custom key combination, a list of all your open windows will be displayed, allowing you to switch to any of them using just your keyboard.

The program is very simple to use – when you trigger the user-defined hotkey, a list of all open windows will be displayed on your screen, along with a search tool to help you find the right one.

You can cycle through them using the arrow keys and then press Enter to bring any of them to the foreground. They can be filtered as well, which should make it easier to find specific items.

There are no other features to be mentioned, as SwitchBlade is not exactly a complex application. While it is very easy to use, it would be great if some visual customization options were available. Also, users should be able to move or resize the program window.

The default hotkey may not be suitable for everyone, but the good news is that it can be changed to a wide range of other key combinations. You can use the Alt, Ctrl and Shift modifiers along with a number of keys.

To sum up, SwitchBlade isn’t a particularly impressive piece of software, but it can prove helpful for some users. If you are working with a lot of open windows, it is a good alternative to Alt-Tab, but it needs to offer more customization options.
