There aren’t a lot of things you can customize about the Windows Taskbar, certainly not enough options for users who want to create personalized themes. Thankfully, certain third-party utilities give you a lot more freedom.

TaskbarCustomizer is one of them, a very simple program that lets you modify the opacity and width of the Taskbar, as well as hide various items. It still needs work, but it looks promising.

First-time users should find the application to be straightforward enough, as there are only a couple of sliders to modify. Any changes are displayed instantly, so it is very easy to fine-tune each setting.

Once you've set everything up, the program can be configured to start with Windows automatically. If you minimize it, it will be sent to the tray area to ensure it stays out of your way while still being easily accessible.

First of all, this program enables you to alter the Taskbar’s opacity, even allowing you to make it fully translucent. It is possible to reduce its width, although it must be noted that the hidden edges of the Taskbar can still be interacted with, just not seen.

TaskbarCustomizer can also hide the Start and Show Desktop buttons from the Taskbar, which Windows does not normally allow you to remove.

It must be noted that this application is still in the early stages of development, so you shouldn’t be surprised if you run into the occasional bug.
