When My Computer became This PC, shortcuts to several folders that are frequently accessed, such as Documents, Downloads, Music and Videos, were also added for the user’s convenience. However, there is no easy way to remove these shortcuts without editing the Registry.

Fortunately, a simple utility called This PC is here to help you out. It allows you to remove any of these shortcuts easily, as well as re-enable them later. It is very simple to use and does not require installation.

Some users probably know that these links can be removed by just editing some registry keys. However, it is understandable that many would prefer to avoid this process, as it is rather complex and certainly not novice-friendly.

With This PC, however, the operation is greatly simplified. There is no reason for any user, even experts, not to rely on this utility, as it saves you time and effort without having any downsides.

After downloading the program, you can launch it instantly from any location, as it does not need to be installed before use. However, keep in mind that Administrative rights are required.

In the minimalistic main window, you will see a list of all available folders that can be shown in This PC. They should all be enabled by default, and you can remove the ones you don’t use. If you disable all of them, the entire category will be hidden.

When you are done, simply close the program and the changes should already be applied. If you want to restore the shortcuts, just enable them again using this utility.

While it is a very simple piece of software, this application does exactly what it is supposed to without complicating thing for no reason. It is very easy to deploy and intuitive, and we ran into no bugs during our tests.
