Web designers know how important it is to think not only about the layout and the looks of a page but also about the way the page will load on different platforms, screen resolutions and sizes. Resizing the browser window to specific dimensions allows them to see how a page would look like when displayed at a smaller size. It is important not to have key elements on the page hidden by the browser window.
Reliable web design application usually come with options that allow device-based previewing but if this feature is not available in your designer, then a software utility such as Window Resizer might work just fine.
Window Resizer is a lightweight application that makes it possible for you to change the size of any of the opened windows to match user-defined dimensions. The main window of Window Resizer displays a list of all the opened windows, whether they are minimized to the system tray or to the Windows taskbar, or they are in focus on the desktop. This list can be refreshed with the click of a button.
When selecting any of the opened windows, its current dimensions are displayed, using the upper left corner of the monitor as reference. In other words, the upper left corner is assigned the starting coordinates on an imaginary X-Y coordinate system that encloses the entire screen. In case your computer is equipped with two or more monitors, the upper left corner of the main screen is the reference point.
You can easily change the position of the selected window by tampering with the values of the “left” and the “top” fields. The width and the height of the window can be easily changed and the target window is automatically resized.
Of course, you can simply place the mouse cursor in the lower right corner of any window and resize it as you please but an application such as Window Resizer allows you to enter exact dimensions for the target window.
Window Resizer does not only find its practical use in web design, where it can help you emulate different screen resolutions, but it can also be used to preserve the same window size when capturing screenshots to include in software documentation. It is a simple tool with a sole purpose: that of changing the size of any of the opened windows on your desktop.
