The only way you can access the information superhighway for your daily online activities on a computer is through a web browser. The market is already full of products, some that lived and prospered in time, but this doesn’t mean they’re the only powerful browsers out there. To be convinced, try out some alternatives like Weberks.

Just like many programs, this one needs to be installed in order to properly function. The process goes incredibly fast and requires only little effort on your behalf. However, you need to make sure that your computer is equipped with .NET Framework, but if you’re using a recent Windows build, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Running it brings up a window of fixed size, which might not appeal to everyone. You’re directly thrown in Google’s critically acclaimed search engine so you can start to look up items of interest. At a first look, the application looks promising, but getting to know it slowly reveals the contrary.

There’s a large upper toolbar with a custom design, and buttons of different size specifications. The concept is neat, with the address field also making its way there, as well as a search field to quickly find stuff online. Besides basic navigation, several other buttons let you save favorite pages, go home, access maps, or inspect web elements. Multiple tabs are also supported.

The application’s default set of features is pretty decent, managing to include incognito browsing, which is cunningly named hacking mode. What’s more, you can easily access Facebook and Twitter in a different window, thanks to a built-in component. The same can be said about email management, thus cutting the dependency of having one too many tabs open for frequent activities.

Unfortunately, practicality hits a brick wall once you punch in a web URL. In other words, the application isn’t quite adapted with modern techniques and technologies, and many web pages can’t be fully accessed or managed, with various script errors triggered. For instance, YouTube won’t let you play any videos because of poorly implemented features.

To sum it up, Weberks makes a proper first impression, grabbing your attention through its neat visual design and abundance of social and work related features. However, the core function, which is to display web pages and let you navigate, has suffers the most from poor implementation of features, which kind of beats the purpose of it all.
