Analysis Tips
Prioritize Analysis
When analyzing a lot of songs, you can tell Tangerine! which ones to prioritize by selecting the songs and then choosing Analyze from the Edit menu (⌘-Y). Tangerine! will then analyze those songs first and then analyze the rest of your music library. You can also control-click on a song to access this feature.
Multiple of 2 Error
Just like any other BPM algorithm, Tangerine! has limitations. When Tangerine! gets the BPM wrong by a multiple of 2, you can select a song and choose Double Song BPM (⌘-*) or the Halve Song BPM (⌘-/) under the Edit menu to correct it. You can also control-click on a song to access this feature. Note that the menu item will be disabled if doubling or halving results in the BPM being outside the range of 50 to 180.
Manual BPM Calculator
If it looks like Tangerine! got the BPM of a song completely wrong, you can verify and correct it using the manual BPM calculator accessible under the Window menu or the keyboard shortcut ⌘-D.
There are two ways you can use the manual BPM calculator:
- Click the button on every down beat of the playing song until the BPM shown is consistent
- Click once on a down beat then adjust the BPM until the down beats match the metronome
NOTE: Once you update the BPM of a song manually this way, its BPM will show up green in the library.
Export BPM values to iTunes
If you would like all the BPM values analyzed by Tangerine! to be available in iTunes, you should choose Save BPM Values to iTunes under the File menu.
Tangerine! will not overwrite any BPM values already present in iTunes. The BPM values in iTunes will actually be used in Tangerine! so if you see weird BPM values such as 13000 show up in Tangerine!, please check the BPM value of the song in iTunes.
