Simple dictionary applications readme

What are Simple dictionary applications?
Simple dictionary applications (SDAs) are programs which enable users to use free dictionaries.

How to use SDAs?
It is very easy to work with any SDA. You just have to download compatible free dictionaries and copy them into the "data" directory there where you have unpacked the SDAs. For example if you have unpacked the sda.zip into C:\sda directory then copy the dictionaries you want to use into the c:\sda\data directory. Any SDA will then enable you to search in the dictionaries.

Where to get compatible free dictionaries
Create and download dictionaries from the Universal dictionary - the Universal dictionary interconnects 32 languages (Basque, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Japanese Romaji, Lithuanian, Norwegian Bokmal, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish). You can create any bilingual dictionary which is combination of these languages. That means not only English-Danish or English-Japanese but also Danish-Japanese or Danish-Portuguese. Universal dictionary grows very quickly so be sure to update the dictionaries you use once a month or so.

Java version
Java version requires Java runtime environment to run. You can test if you have Java installed on your computer. Launch the console / commandline application (in Win9x run "command" in W2k and WinXP run "cmd" in linux launch "console" etc.) Write "java" and press enter. If you see many lines of text you have Java installed. If you see something like "Bad command or file name" you do not have Java installed. If you do not have Java installed on your computer you can download Java JRE for free from Java.sun.com. The file is about 10 MB big. After you install the Java JRE run the "java" command again to see if java is working properly. When you have Java installed on your computer you can run Java SDA.

Delphi version
Delphi version will work on Win32 systems.

C version
C version is a simple console application. It should run on all platforms which have C compiler.

C# version
C# version requires .net framework.

For developers
I dare everyone to code better dictionary applications. Come on! You can code friendlier or faster dictionary applications!
