Welcome to Arranged for Mac! This user manual covers how to get started creating arrangements, and includes some tips & tricks for getting the most out of the app.
To open this user manual again later, select
Help > Arranged Help
.
There are two modes in Arranged, View mode and Edit mode.
New windows start in Edit mode (open a new window by selecting File > New Window
or by pressing ⌘N
on your keyboard). In this mode, the arrangement is editable: the address bar is available to change URLs, dividers are visible, and new splits can be created.
The other mode, called View mode, allows the arrangement to be viewed (but not edited): the address bar is hidden, dividers are not shown, and new splits can't be created. This mode works well for viewing an arrangement, since the interface won't take up additional space in the window.
The current mode is displayed on the upper right corner of the Arranged window (the example above currently has View mode selected).
Switch modes at any time by doing any of the following:
View > Enter View Mode
or View > Enter Edit Mode
⌘E
on your keyboardThe current mode is stored along with your arrangement each time it is saved. Saving an arrangement in View mode means it will be restored in View mode the next time it is opened.
Arranged creates new windows with a single blank page. Every page can be split vertically and horizontally as many times as you'd like, to create a custom arrangement.
Split a page vertically by selecting File > New Vertical Page
or by pressing ⌘D
on your keyboard.
Split a page horizontally by selecting File > New Horizontal Page
or by pressing ⇧⌘D
on your keyboard.
These can be further split however you'd like, to create any arrangement of pages.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to open new split pages.
When splitting a page, the resulting two pages will be equal in size.
To resize, drag the separator between them. You can also use your keyboard to resize pages. Select View > Increase Page Size
, View > Decrease Page Size
, or press ⌘+
or ⌘-
on your keyboard.
To go back to the equal sizing, select View > Equalize Page Size
, or press ⌘0
on your keyboard.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to resize pages.
In Arranged, the selected page will have a blue border around it (in Edit mode). This highlights the page that will be changed when you perform an action, such as entering a URL in the address bar, using the back/forward buttons, closing the selected page, or opening a new split page.
In Edit mode, The selected page can be changed by any one of the following:
Window > Select Next Page
or Window > Select Previous Page
⇧⌘]
or ⇧⌘[
To change any page's URL, simply select it as the selected page, then enter the URL in the address bar, and press return.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to select pages. In View Mode, pages cannot be changed, so there is no selected page.
Let's load some content in that newly created split page. Let's load arrangedapp.com in the left split. Change the selected page to the left split, enter the URL, and press return.
Next, let's load apple.com/osx in the right split. Change the selected page to the right split, enter the URL, and press return.
To load local content, just drag & drop it onto the desired split page. File types that can be opened by WebKit are supported. For this example, let's drag an image onto the right split.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to drag & drop content into Arranged.
To close an individual page, you can do any of the following: click the icon on the top left corner of a page, select
File > Close Page
, or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘W
to close the selected page.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to close individual pages. The entire Arranged window can be closed while in either View or Edit mode (
⇧⌘W
).
Arranged will display horizontal and vertical scrollbars by default. Select View > Disable Scrolling
or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘/
to toggle scrollbars. This will show/hide the page scrollbars for the Arranged window.
View and Edit mode both open links when they are clicked, but in different ways:
When setting up an arrangement in Edit mode, follow links to navigate to each desired page. Once you're there, you can change to View mode to send links to your default web browser (such as Safari or Chrome) for further browsing when clicked.
Click the icon on the top right corner of a page to edit the settings for that page.
Enable this setting to automatically reload the page every 30 seconds. Change the number of seconds to customize how often the page will automatically reload.
Some websites return different versions of content for Desktop requests and Mobile requests. Changing this setting can affect how websites are displayed, and will vary based on the website.
This setting controls the text size that is displayed for the page.
You'll need to be in Edit mode to edit Page Settings. Page Settings are specific to each page, and do not affect other pages that are open at the same time. For example, a particular page in an arrangement might be set to Request Desktop, and the others set to Request Mobile.
Select File > Save Window...
or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘S
to save the current arrangement. This will save everything about the arrangement to a file ending in .arrangement
. For example, an arrangement could be saved as demo.arrangement
.
This save file includes:
The saved file (in this case called
demo.arrangement
) can be shared, synced, backed up, and later opened by any copy of Arranged. Arrangements contain page URL data to restore pages, but do not contain page content, sessions, or cookies. Pages will be reloaded each time an arrangement is opened.
Select File > Open File...
, use the keyboard shortcut ⌘O
, or double-click a .arrangement
file to open it in Arranged.
The arrangement will be restored to the state it was in when last saved. All saved URLs will be reloaded from the web.
Opening an arrangement will create a new window, it will not affect existing arrangements that are already open.
Select View > Enter Full Screen
, or use the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘F
to enter full screen. This same shortcut will also exit Full Screen.
The window toolbar will be displayed in Full Screen by default, and it can be hidden. Hide the toolbar by selecting View > Hide Toolbar
, or with the keyboard shortcut ⌥⌘T
.
With these settings, Arranged can fill an entire screen, perfect for dashboards and other arrangements that can use an entire display's screen size. An arrangement saved in Full Screen will be restored to Full Screen when it is opened.
To show an arrangement at login, add the .arrangement
file to OS X Login Items.
System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items
+
icon.arrangement
fileLog Out, then Log In to OS X to see these changes. Arranged will open the selected arrangement as it appeared when it was last saved. For a kiosk or status board display, arrangements can show content that fills the entire display by enabling the following: View mode (
⌘E
), Hide Toolbar (⌥⌘T
), and Full Screen (⌃⌘F
).
