What is Adwaita Elements For Linux?

Adwaita Elements

Adwaita Elements is a GTK theme that takes the classic Adwaita theme and adds a twist. It’s inspired by both the Elementary theme and Clearlooks Revamped, which is where it gets its name.

What Makes Adwaita Elements Special?

This theme really pulls from the good stuff in both Adwaita and Elementary. So, if you’re a fan of those styles, you’ll probably find this one pretty appealing! The creator wants to mix together all the best features from these themes and maybe even borrow some ideas from other designs.

A Closer Look at Metacity Theme

The Metacity part of this theme is built on Gilouche's code but has been rewritten quite a bit. You’ll notice there’s a 4px border under the windows, which gives it a nice touch similar to what you’d see in Openbox or Fluxbox themes. It’s all about blending style with functionality!

Gnome Terminal's New Scrollbar

If you use Gnome Terminal, you’re in for a treat! It now has its own scrollbar designed to blend perfectly with any transparent background. This makes for a smoother look while you work.

Still Growing!

This theme is still pretty young, so don’t be surprised if some things aren’t fully polished yet. The developer plans on updating it regularly to improve its look and feel.

Future Tweaks to Expect

  • GTK2 Theme Fix: There are plans to make the GTK2 version look as much like GTK3 as possible.

  • Window Buttons: The close/maximize/minimize/restore buttons will likely not be taken from the Elementary Metacity theme.

  • Button Design: Work is needed to figure out how to draw inner and outer strokes with Adwaita buttons.

If you're eager to try out Adwaita Elements, keep an eye out for updates!
