What is Aud For Linux?

Aud

Aud is a cool dark GTK theme that gives your desktop a fresh look. If you're ready to change things up, here's how you can easily install it!

How to Install Aud Theme

To get started, just right-click on your desktop and select Change Desktop Background. Simple, right? Next, click on the first tab labeled Theme.

Now comes the fun part! Drag and drop the theme's archive directly into the Appearance Preferences window. If all goes well, you should see a confirmation message pop up. Once you see that, just click on the theme to activate it. Easy peasy!

What is GNOME?

You might be wondering about GNOME. It's this amazing international project aimed at creating a complete desktop environment using free software. Basically, it's what sits on top of your computer's operating system and gives you that graphical user interface we all love.

The Goals of GNOME

The goal here is pretty simple: they want to build software development frameworks, choose awesome application software for desktops, and work on programs that manage everything from launching apps to file handling and window management.

GNOME and Its Roots

GNOME is part of the GNU Project and works with various Unix-like operating systems, especially Linux. It even plays nicely with the Java Desktop System in Solaris!

A Little History

The name GNOME originally stood for GNU Network Object Model Environment, but that's not used anymore. The project focuses heavily on simplicity and usability—basically making sure everything “just works.” Want to try out Aud? You can download it here.
