Aurora Gtk Engine

Aurora Gtk Engine themes give your Gtk applications a fresh and consistent look. They include all the common Gtk widgets you need to make everything visually appealing.

Customizing Your Theme

You can tweak various settings to get your theme just right:

• menubarstyle = 1 # Choose between flat (0) or gradient (1)


• curvature = 5 # This is the default curvature for widgets


• arrowsize = 1 # This controls the size of combo_arrow circles. The diameter is set by (11 + 2 * arrowsize)


• old_arrowstyle = FALSE # Set this to TRUE if you want the original circled arrows, just like in sorted tree columns


• animation = TRUE # Enable or disable animations (make sure it’s compiled with animation support for it to work!)

Themes and Preferences

The included themes let you pick your colors, and you can adjust them easily through Theme Preferences in GNOME.

Known Limitations

• Ugly widgets in: OpenOffice and Java applications. Sadly, there’s not much we can do here, but we hope their emulation of Gtk themes gets better soon.

Requirements and Installation Instructions

You will need Gtk 2.10+. This engine comes with both GtkRc themes and the theme engine itself.

To install it, extract the files somewhere easy to find. Then run these commands:

• ./configure --prefix=/usr


• make

If you want animation support, add -enable-animation.

If you're logged in as root, run: make install.

You’ll also need to install the gtkrc themes by extracting them into your ~/.themes directory (there are three themes available).

Selecting Your Theme on GNOME

If you want to change your current theme to Aurora, open up Theme Preferences—usually found under System > Preferences. Click on Customize and select your new theme under the controls tab!
