Description

BGPHist

BGPHist is a cool, open-source software that’s totally free to use! It works on different platforms and runs right from the command line. This handy app grabs MP-BGP updates, decodes them, and stores the info so you can keep an eye on things and log activities. Plus, it even comes with a simple web-based front end if you're using MySQL.

What Can BGPHist Do?

Besides handling Internet routes, BGPHist supports IPv6 VPN, IPv4 VPN, and L2VPN too! You can also save your data in various back-end storages like Oracle and MySQL databases or even as plain text output.

Monitoring Made Easy

This tool is perfect for logging and monitoring ISP customers' activities on VPNs and the Internet. It acts like a passive BGP looking glass for all sorts of Internet connections and VPNs. Plus, it can work as a back end for other accounting and monitoring solutions.

Simplified Command-Line Options

You don’t have to worry about complicated commands either! BGPHist has a few straightforward command-line options you can use. For example:

  • -p: Specify a BGP peer IP

  • -a: Specify an ASN

  • -d: Choose your database type with connection parameters

  • -w: Set async wait time in milliseconds

  • -f: Play a capture file instead of connecting to a BGP router directly.

You can see these options by just running the ‘bgphist’ command in your terminal after installing it. Installation is easy: download the source tarball (TAR archive), unpack it on your computer, navigate to where you extracted the files (like cd /home/softpedia/bgphist-0.0.4) in your terminal, then run ‘./configure && make’ to compile it, followed by ‘sudo make install’ to set it up system-wide.

A Peek Under The Hood!

If you're curious about how it works under the hood, BGPHist is written entirely in C++. Its web interface uses PHP on the server side. And don’t worry; it's compatible with both GNU/Linux and FreeBSD operating systems while supporting both 64-bit and 32-bit CPU architectures!
