Catartica is a cool, modern theme for GNOME that’s a bit on the dark side. If you’re looking to jazz up your desktop, this theme might be just what you need!

Adjusting Transparency

If you want to play around with transparency, you’ll need to dive into some settings. Open ccsm and adjust the opacity, brightness, and saturation for specific windows. To do this, set it up like this:

• (name=gnome-panel | type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu)


• Then set the window value however you want.

Setting Up Your Theme

To set everything up, just right-click on your desktop and choose Change Desktop Background.

• Select the first tab: Theme.


• Drag and drop the theme's archive right into the Appearance Preferences window.


• If all goes well, you'll see a confirmation message. Just click on it to activate your new theme!

A Little About GNOME

So what’s GNOME all about? It’s a big project aimed at creating a complete desktop environment using free software. This means they work on everything from software development tools to managing how applications launch and how files are handled.

This project is part of the GNU Project and works with many Unix-like systems, especially Linux. It even has ties with Solaris through Java Desktop System!
