Description

CLIP

CLIP is a super handy Clipper/XBase compatible compiler. It’s got some initial support for other xBase dialects, which is pretty cool! One of the standout features of the CLIP project is that it supports international languages and character sets, making it easier for everyone to use.

Awesome Features of CLIP

  • Preprocessor: A must-have for any coder.

  • Compatibility: Fully works with CA-Clipper but adds some neat new options!

  • Compiler: There might be slight differences with CA-Clipper, but you can easily fix them using the "search and replace" method. Plus, it can compile to C program, byte-code, dynamic library, or even mixed C+byte-code!

  • Efficient OO-model: It runs fast and smooth.

  • You can write programs in CLIP without needing any other syntax besides OOP.

  • C-API: This offers way more options than CA-Clipper.

International Support

The full international support means you can adjust settings to match any language! You get keyboard adjustments too (using stelnet emulator or consoles), plus string constants substitution during execution. Pretty nifty!

User-Friendly GUI

The GUI based on GTK allows you to use all sorts of widgets and handle events smoothly. You can even load and execute byte-code from external files while running your applications!

Compatibility Galore

You’ll find compatibility up to Clipper 5.3—this includes support for objects menu, buttons, and various get-objects. It also supports all SIX functions and features.

Multitasking & SQL Support

If multitasking is your thing, then you'll love CLIP! There's also CODB - CLIP Object Data Base along with libraries for direct access to SQL servers like PG, MySQL, Oracle, and Interbase. Plus an ODBC bridge to Windows drivers!

A Few More Cool Features

  • You have operator overloading for objects.

  • The support for regular expressions makes life easier.

  • A multi-window interactive debugger helps you troubleshoot efficiently.
