Description

Cloc

Cloc is an open-source, cross-platform command-line tool that’s super handy for counting lines in your source code. It was built using Perl and is designed to help programmers count blank lines, physical lines, and comment lines easily. Plus, it works with a bunch of different programming languages!

Features of Cloc

This software can read language comment definitions and even count code inside compressed archives. It also has some cool troubleshooting options. You can gather results from multiple runs organized by project and language, and it can handle files with weird characters or spaces in their names.

Command-Line Options

The Cloc program packs a lot of punch when it comes to command-line options! If you want to see all the commands available, just type ‘cloc --help’ in your terminal emulator. The commands are neatly categorized into input options, processing options, filter options, debug options, and output options.

Interesting Commands

Among the coolest command-line features are the ability to report results for each source file individually, process files with specific extensions, use custom language filters, and ignore horizontal white space when comparing files.

No Installation Required!

The best part? Cloc is super simple! You don’t even have to install it. Just download the latest version from Softpedia. Save the archive on your computer, unpack it, fire up a terminal emulator app, navigate to where you saved it (like cd /home/softpedia/cloc-1.62), and run the ‘cloc’ command.

Supported Platforms

If you're curious about its background, Cloc is fully written in Perl and works on various operating systems like GNU/Linux, Solaris, AIX, z/OS, IRIX64, as well as Microsoft Windows. Whether you're on a 32-bit or 64-bit machine (x86 or x86_64), you’re covered!
