Description

Compiz-Check

Compiz-Check is a handy tool that helps you figure out if Compiz can run on your setup. If it can't, don't worry! It will also tell you why not. It's like having a tech buddy right by your side!

Easy Troubleshooting

If you run into issues, the output from this script makes it super easy to get help. You can share the info on the official Compiz Fusion forums or the mailing list for your Linux distribution. This way, finding support for any problems becomes a breeze.

Compatible with Many Environments

This script works well for users of GNOME, KDE, and Xfce. Plus, it’s not tied to just one Linux distro—it actually gives you details about your system!

The Test Breakdown

The test has three main parts:

  1. Listing important system info.

  2. Running several checks related to Compiz.

  3. Looking for any hardware issues or setup problems.

Your Output Example

You might see something like this:

 Gathering information about your system...
Distribution: Ubuntu 8.04
Desktop environment: GNOME
Graphics chip: ATI Technologies Inc RV350 AR [Radeon 9600]
Driver in use: radeon
Rendering method: AIGLX

Running Checks

The next step is checking if Compiz can run:

 Checking for texture_from_pixmap... [ OK ]
Checking for non power of two support... [ OK ]
Checking for composite extension... [ OK ]
Checking for FBConfig... [ OK ]
Checking for hardware/setup problems... [ OK ]

If Everything Looks Good...

If everything checks out like in this example, then yay! Your system should be good to go with Compiz.

If something fails, no worries—you’ll get a reason along with hints on how to fix it.

No Changes Made!

Compiz-Check doesn’t run Compiz or change anything on your system by itself.
