Description

dateutils

dateutils is a cool open-source tool that's totally free! It's made for the command line and built in C. This software gives you a bunch of handy utilities to help you manage dates and times on any GNU/Linux system.

Why Use dateutils?

The main focus of dateutils is to tackle problems that come up when you're dealing with large sets of financial data. It has lots of neat utilities. For instance, there's the ‘strptime’ command, which works like the C function but in command-line form. Plus, you can use the ‘dadd’ command to easily add durations to your dates and times.

Awesome Utilities Included

Dateutils is packed with features! You get the ‘dconv’ command for switching between different calendars, and the ‘ddiff’ command that helps you calculate durations between dates and times. Need to sort some files? The ‘dsort’ command will put everything in chronological order for you!

More Features to Explore

If you're looking for something specific, check out the ‘dgrep’ command for searching through input streams for dates and times. There’s also the ‘dround’ command that lets you round times and dates to nicer values. Want to create a sequence of dates? Just use the ‘dseq’ command!

Working with Time Zones

The ‘dzone’ command can batch convert your dates and times into different time zones—super useful! And if you're comparing things, there’s the ‘dtest’ command ready to help.

How to Install dateutils

If dateutils isn't already on your system, no worries! You can grab it from Softpedia. Just download it as a universal sources archive (tarball).

Save that archive where you want (like your Home directory), then use an archive manager to unpack it. After that, open a terminal emulator and navigate to where you extracted those files using the ‘cd’ command (for example, cd /home/softpedia/dateutils-0.3.1). Next up, run ./configure && make to set things up and compile dateutils.

Finally, install it by running make install. If you're not logged in as root or don’t have root privileges, just use sudo make install.
