Description

ddclient

ddclient is a totally free, open-source tool that you can run on different platforms. It's a command-line software made in Perl, and it works as a non-interactive daemon. This means it can update Dynamic DNS entries for accounts using the free DNS service called "Dynamic DNS Network Services." But wait, there's more! It also plays nice with other similar services and even various routers.

Features of ddclient

This program is built to work like a daemon, which has some cool features. You can do automatic, manual, static, and dynamic updates—all designed to handle multiple addresses. Plus, it supports MX records and wildcards while keeping an eye out for any abuse. If an update fails? No worries! ddclient tries again and can even send you update status via email or log it into syslog.

Command-Line Options

You'll find plenty of command-line options packed in this program. Some key features include being able to set delays when running the daemon and running it in the foreground if you prefer that style. You can also use a host as an HTTP proxy!

DNS Updates Made Easy

ddclient makes updating your DNS info super simple. You have support for changing the protocol used and loading specific config files. Plus, it keeps track of address and process IDs in a certain path while getting IP addresses from various devices—there's even a complete list available right in the command-line usage message!

Written in Perl

The whole thing is written in Perl, which makes it easy to move over to other UNIX-like systems. Right now, you can install ddclient on different GNU/Linux distributions as well as FreeBSD.

Download Options

If you're ready to get started with ddclient, it's available for download as a TAR archive in both GZ and BZ2 formats! These archives include all the files you'll need to optimize and compile ddclient for your specific hardware architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) along with support for all GNU/Linux systems.
