The Dell 1600n Network Scanner Driver is your go-to tool for network scanning with the Dell 1600n Printer/Scanner/Fax/Copier. It runs as a Perl script, which is pretty neat because it means it should work across different platforms without much hassle.
This driver has been tested on Linux (Debian) and Windows (NT4 using Cygwin) on Intel systems. When it comes to formats, you can scan in TIFF and JPEG. Plus, if you have an external program like ImageMagick, you can even convert your scans to PDF!
Here are some cool features:
If you want everything to work smoothly right off the bat, make sure you have convert (for PDF conversion) and mutt (for email) installed. If you're missing one or both, check out the global variables at the top of the script like %main::emailCmd and %main::pdfConvertCmd. It should help clear things up!
You can download the script to a spot that's easy for you to find. To run it without any arguments, just use:
jon@jon:~$ ~/code/dell1600n-net-scan/dell1600n-net-scan.pl
If you need options, just type: codex/dell1600n-net-scan/dell1600n-net-scan.pl < options >
