DICTC is a cool tool that lets you tap into dictionary definitions from lots of different natural language databases. It uses the Dictionary Server Protocol (DICT), which is a type of TCP transaction-based query and response method. This means when you ask for a word's meaning, DICTC quickly gets it from a dictionary database and sends the info right back to you.
The Dictionary Server Protocol, or DICT for short, was created by the DICT Development Group and explained in RFC 2229. The main idea behind it? To improve on the old Webster protocol and allow users to access even more dictionaries at once! Pretty neat, right?
DICT clients and servers communicate using TCP port 2628. So, when you're using DICTC, it’s like having your own personal dictionary assistant that fetches definitions from multiple sources, all in one go!
If you're curious about how all this works, download DICTC and give it a whirl! You might find it super handy for your writing or studying needs.
