Dmidecode project reports information about your system's hardware as described in your system BIOS according to the SMBIOS and DMI standard.



Main Features:



  • System manufacturer, model name, serial number, BIOS version, asset tag, and more

  • Usage status for CPU sockets, expansion slots, and memory module slots

  • List of I/O ports such as serial, parallel, USB



Additional Uses:



  • Kernel developers can detect system "signatures" using DMI data

  • Biosdecode prints all BIOS-related information

  • Ownership tag retrieval for Compaq computers

  • Vpddecode prints vital product data for IBM computers

Beware that DMI data can be unreliable. Dmidecode does not scan hardware, it reports what the BIOS tells it to.
