Faenza is a cool icon theme made for GNOME. It gives you sleek monochromatic icons for your panels, toolbars, and buttons. Plus, it has colorful squared icons for things like devices, applications, folders, files, and menu items in GNOME. If you're looking to spruce up your desktop look, this theme has got you covered!
One neat feature of Faenza is the installation script. It lets you pick the logo from your favorite Linux distribution and choose how the main menu icon looks (like whether it’s in monochrome or color). Talk about personalizing your setup!
No matter what vibe you're going for with your desktop—light or dark—Faenza has two themes included to match either one. It's super easy to switch based on your mood.
Installation: To get started with Faenza, download the tar.gz file and extract it. Once that’s done, go into the new folder created and run the ./INSTALL
script. This will let you select which distribution logo to use (it defaults to Ubuntu) and pick out the Gnome menu icon. If you run this as root, it will copy the icon sets over to /usr/share/icons
, making them available for all users! Just a heads-up: some default icons used by programs like Rhythmbox and Dockmanager might also get replaced.
If you ever want to go back to default icons, just run ./UNINSTALL
as root.
If you're on Ubuntu and want an easy way to install Faenza via a PPA repository, simply open up your terminal and type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tiheum/equinox
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install faenza-icon-theme
