Fingerprint GUI is a cool software written in C++ that gives you a POSIX-compatible graphical user interface (GUI) for Linux. This means it makes using fingerprint devices super easy with your favorite Linux distribution!
This handy tool includes a bunch of graphical utilities that help you use fingerprint scanners on Linux-based systems. You can record and check fingerprints, making logging into your system smoother than ever.
You can use Fingerprint GUI to log into your Linux system or as part of an authentication system through its PAM module. Plus, there’s an app called fingerprintIdentifier, which helps with identifying and authenticating custom shell scripts.
This software works well with many built-in UPEK fingerprint readers, including models like the AuthenTec AES2501A, AES1660, and even the Microsoft fingerprint reader. It supports both 32-bit and 64-bit computers too!
Fingerprint GUI is compatible with popular desktop environments like GNOME, Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and LXDE. However, a little heads up: if you're using KDE, the “Fingerprint PAM” feature might not work for login or unlocking the kscreensaver due to some bugs in KDM and kscreensaver on certain systems.
If you want to try it out, start by downloading the latest version from Softpedia. Save it somewhere on your computer and then extract it using your distribution’s archive manager. Open up a terminal emulator app and use the ‘cd’ command to go to where you saved those files (like this: cd /home/softpedia/fingerprint-gui-1.06).
Next up, run ‘qmake-qt4’ to set everything up. After that, type ‘make’ to compile it all together. If everything goes well, you’ll need to run ‘make install’ as root or use ‘sudo make install’ as a privileged user so that Fingerprint GUI is available for everyone.
Go to the Softpas website, press the 'Downloads' button, and pick the app you want to download and install—easy and fast!
