Description

Gconf Editor

Gconf Editor is a handy tool for managing the GConf configuration system. If you’re looking to get this software up and running, I’ve got you covered with some simple steps!

How to Compile Gconf Editor

The easiest way to compile this package is:

  1. Start by opening your terminal. Navigate to the directory where you have the source code. You can do this by typing cd followed by the path to your folder.

  2. Next, configure the package. Type ./configure. This gets everything ready for your system. If you're using an older version of System V with csh, you might need to use sh ./configure. This stops csh from trying to run the configure script on its own.

  3. This step takes a little time. While it’s running, you’ll see messages about which features are being checked. Just hang tight!

  4. Now it’s time to compile! Type make. This will build the package so you can use it.

  5. If you want, run some tests! You can type make check. This runs any self-tests that come with Gconf Editor to make sure everything is working right.

  6. You’re almost done! To install the programs and any related files, type make install.

  7. If you need to clean up, type make clean. This removes the program binaries and object files from your source code directory. If you want to clear out everything created by configure as well (like if you're switching computers), use make distclean.

  8. If you're a developer or feeling adventurous, there’s also a make maintainer-clean, but be careful! You might need extra tools afterwards.
