Description

GNOME Maps

GNOME Maps is an open-source maps application made just for the GNOME desktop environment. If you're looking to find a specific spot anywhere on the globe, this app makes it super easy!

Explore Locations with Ease

With GNOME Maps, you can search for places, get directions, pin locations, bookmark your favorite spots, check in at places, and so much more. It features a really detailed world map powered by MapQuest and Open Street Map projects.

User-Friendly Interface

The interface feels familiar, especially if you're a GNOME user. You can quickly see your current location based on the Wi-Fi network you're using. Plus, switching between Street and Satellite views is a breeze!

Upcoming Features to Look Forward To

Future versions of GNOME Maps are set to bring some cool features like address lookup (reverse geocoding), routing for trips, public transportation info, and even fun functions like "Check In" or "Where’s my friends?" You'll definitely want to keep an eye out for those updates!

Navigating Made Simple

You can easily zoom in or out using buttons right on the map or by using your mouse wheel. Want to zoom in even more? Just double left-click anywhere on the map!

Right-Click Options

If you right-click on the map, you'll see two handy options. The first one is called “What’s here?” which shows you the most important thing in that area. The second option is “I’m here!” which will place a pin right where you clicked.

Search Functionality

A search bar sits conveniently on the main toolbar for quick searches. If there are multiple places with similar names, they’ll pop up right under the search bar.

The First of Its Kind

GNOME Maps isn’t just any mapping app; it’s actually the first modern and user-friendly maps application created specifically for an open-source desktop environment and all of GNU/Linux! You can check it out here.
