Description

GNU Gatekeeper

GNU Gatekeeper (or GnuGk for short) is a totally free, open-source software that works across different platforms. It’s built on the OpenH323 project and helps manage Voice-over-IP networks. This means it allows devices like Netmeeting to chat with each other using easy-to-remember names instead of complicated numbers. Plus, it has a web-based interface that makes tasks like billing a piece of cake!

Cool Features of GNU Gatekeeper

  • Call Authorization & Accounting: It uses an SQL database to keep track of calls.

  • Flexible Call Routing: Easily direct calls where they need to go.

  • Number Rewriting: Change caller and called numbers as needed.

  • Database Drivers: Works with MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite, ODBC, and Firebird.

  • NAT Traversal Support: Handles various NAT traversal protocols.

  • Full H.323 Proxy Support: Supports all your proxy needs!

Amazing CTI Functions

The application also offers CTI functions which are super useful! You can transfer calls easily and even set up a VOIP call-center. Plus, it supports gatekeeper clustering which is great for larger setups.

Security Features

Your safety matters! GNU Gatekeeper includes H.235 security support for media encryption and authentication. It also supports LDAP directories and even IPv6 alongside IPv4-IPv6 proxying!

Easy Installation on GNU/Linux

If you’re looking to install GNU Gatekeeper, it's super simple! Just download the latest version, save it in your Home directory, unpack it, and open up your Terminal app.

The Installation Steps

  1. Navigating to where you unpacked the files (like going to /home/softpedia/gnugk-3.8) in the terminal window.

  2. Run the commands: ./configure && make.

  3. If everything compiles smoothly, type sudo make install.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

You’ll love that GNU Gatekeeper is designed for all sorts of systems! It works on every GNU/Linux distribution as well as Windows, Mac OS X, FreeBSD variants, and Solaris operating systems. We’ve tested it on both 32-bit and 64-bit CPUs without any hiccups!
