grub-choose-default

grub-choose-default is a handy little tool that makes it super easy to set which operating system you want to boot into next. How Does It Work?

grub-choose-default reads your grub menu entries and lets you click on the one you want as the next default. All it takes is a few clicks!

Setting It Up

You’ll need to make sure that in your grub's menu.lst file, you've specified 'default saved'. This way, grub will check the default file in its directory for guidance on what entry to boot next. The good news? grub-choose-default will handle modifying this file for you.

Technical Requirements

This tool is written in Python (so make sure it's installed). It's compatible with both Linux and Windows systems.

• Under Linux:


• It checks /boot/grub/menu.lst and saves your choice in /boot/grub/default.


• The program looks through all drives for grub/menu.lst or boot/grub/menu.lst.


• Please note there’s no option yet to specify where menu.lst is located manually, but feedback on this feature is welcome!
