HiDPI Fixer is a handy app for Linux that helps you tweak your system's DPI settings and fractional scaling. If you've ever struggled with display issues, this tool is here to help!
This little open-source utility lets you create scripts for fractional scaling on your display using X11. When you set it up right, it can really enhance the way everything looks on your screen.
The HiDPI Fixer is built using the popular Qt framework, which means it works well across desktop, embedded, and mobile devices. You’ll find it available only as an AppImage, making installation straightforward.
This app combines GNOME's scaling-factor setting with xrandr commands to get everything just right. Basically, it figures out the best resolution to achieve your desired scaling factor and then applies that new resolution.
HiDPI Fixer has been tested on various environments like GNOME, Deepin Desktop, and KDE. Just a heads-up: if you're using Deepin or KDE, you’ll need to set the scaling factor to 200% for optimal performance.
The cool thing about this app is that it runs the generated script every time you log in. It saves all commands in a *.sh file for any displays you have connected. Plus, it can modify your ~/.profile file so most Qt-based apps scale properly—similar to what KDE does.
While HiDPI Fixer can be super useful for those who know how to create scripts, it's not without its quirks. Some apps might ignore DPI settings altogether; WPS Office is one example of this issue.
Also keep in mind that sometimes xrandr may struggle with resolutions larger than what your screen can handle. This could lead to a BAD MATCH error popping up when you're trying to make changes.
