Description

ipidscan

ipidscan is a cool project that works as a port scanner using the ip.id method. If you’re curious, this method was first mentioned by antirez on Bugtraq back on December 15, 1998. Can you believe it? The first public port scanner I know of was shared on Bugtraq just a little later, on December 3, 1999. And guess what? This program came out in response to that on December 4, 1999!

How Does it Work?

The neat thing about this scanner is that it doesn’t directly reach out to the target host. That means it's super hard to trace back! Pretty clever, right?

Key Features of ipidscan

Here are some key features of ipidscan:

  • The default setting sends null packets for echoing. Some firewalls might block these though, so you can override this with -F.

  • You’ve got loads of options available—everything's nice and user-friendly!

  • If you're dealing with a silent Windows host, use -e instead of -o 256.

  • This tool works great on both big-endian and little-endian systems.

Requirements for Using ipidscan

You'll need:

  • libnet

  • libpcap

Limitations to Keep in Mind

Here’s what you should know:

  • This tool probably only works on Linux systems.

  • You can currently only use one silent host per scan; ports are scanned one after another.

What’s New in This Release?

The latest version now works with big-endian systems too! Isn’t that great?
