Easy Setup
Since IPv6SubnetCalc is made with Java, you’ll need to have the Java Runtime Environment installed on your computer. The best part? You don’t even need to install it! Just double-click the .jar file to get it running. Plus, it doesn’t mess with your system registry or create extra files on your computer.
User-Friendly Interface
The interface is pretty straightforward too. It uses a Java Swing GUI that shows a default address and mask right off the bat to help you get started quickly. You can easily change the address and choose a prefix mask ranging from /1 to /64.
Advanced Features
If you need even more flexibility, you can set the mask bigger than 64 bits—up to 120 or 127 bits! It also considers mEUI-64 (Modified Extended Unique Identifier - 64) for /54 networks, so you're well-covered.
How Calculations Work
You just hit the button that shows a graphical representation of binary code for calculations. A popup will display all the bits in IPv6 mode, plus you'll see key details like address type, network ID, first and last usable addresses, and how many usable addresses there are.
Subnet Information
The calculator gives you useful data like predefined router anycast addresses, reserved anycast addresses, number of subnets available, and MAC addresses (decoded as per RFC2464). However, there’s no option yet for copying data to clipboard or saving it directly into files.
