ITRANS (Indian Language Transliteration Package)
ITRANS is an awesome, free tool that helps you convert English text into different Indian languages. It’s a command-line program, which means you’ll type in commands to use it. This software is perfect if you want to display or print text in languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and more!
Supported Languages
This handy tool supports several Indian scripts including:
- Devanagari (Hindi/Sanskrit/Marathi)
- Telugu
- Tamil
- Kannada
- Gujarati
- Bengali
- Romanized Sanskrit
- Gurmukhi
Input Encodings and Output Formats
You can use two input encodings: CS/CSX and ITRANS. For output, ITRANS gives you three options:
- HTML (HyperText Markup Language)
- TeX/LaTeX documents
- PostScript (PS) documents
User-Friendly Features
The command-line interface makes it easy to set up your files. You can change the output format from TeX to PostScript and even adjust the font size for PostScript output.
Installation Guide for Linux Users
If you're using a GNU/Linux system, installing ITRANS is simple! First, download the latest version from its official site or check out Softpedia where it's available as a ZIP file. Just save it where you like on your computer.
Next, unpack the ZIP archive. Open your Terminal app and navigate to the “src” directory with a command like:
cd /home/softpedia/itrans-5.3/src
Then run the ‘make’ command to compile it. If everything goes well, install ITRANS across your system by typing ‘sudo make install’.
