Description

kAnyRemote

kAnyRemote is a super cool open-source software that works as a front-end for the anyRemote Bluetooth remote control software. It’s especially made for the KDE Plasma desktop environment, which is pretty neat!

What Is AnyRemote?

The main idea behind the anyRemote project is to let you control your Linux operating system wirelessly using Bluetooth or InfraRed. There are other GUI options out there, like gAnyRemote for GNOME and some GTK-based desktops, plus a Java client for Android. But kAnyRemote? It's just perfect for KDE!

How Does It Work?

If you had to sum up kAnyRemote in three words, it would be “anyRemote for KDE.” Once you fire it up, it runs in the background but lets you interact through an icon in your system tray. This makes it easy to start or stop the anyRemote server and check out which apps are connected at that time.

Compatible Apps

You’ll find that tons of KDE and GNOME applications work like a charm with anyRemote software. Some of these include:

  • Amarok

  • Audacious

  • Banshee

  • Kaffeine

  • VLC Media Player

  • Xine (Kodi)

  • And many more!

The list goes on with players like Decibel and Exaile too! So if you're into media playback, you’re all set.

Diving Deeper into kAnyRemote

If you peek under the hood, you'll see that this app is written in Qt. Just remember, you'll need the anyRemote software installed before you can get kAnyRemote working on your system. It has been tested on lots of Linux distributions and works great on both 32-bit and 64-bit hardware platforms.
