KopenVPN is a free software project that aims to make using the OpenVPN service super easy for anyone using a KDE4 desktop environment. It lets you open and launch any OpenVPN configuration file (.ovpn) without a hassle.

What Makes KopenVPN Special?

This software is a shell script written in UNIX Shell (Bash) and it’s specially designed for the KDE4 desktop, not the newer KDE Plasma 5. It uses KDialog and Konsole to help you easily start a new OpenVPN connection with your .ovpn configuration file.

Easy Installation on GNU/Linux

You can install KopenVPN on any GNU/Linux operating system. It's available as a binary archive or an XZM archive, which makes it super simple for users of the Porteus Linux distribution to set it up by just activating the KopenVPN_1-0.xzm module.

Installing KopenVPN on Other Operating Systems

If you're looking to install KopenVPN on other OSes, just download the tar archive from the downloads section above. Save it in your Home directory and extract its contents as root (system administrator). Make sure you place the ‘kopenvpn’ file in the /usr/local/bin folder and the ‘KopenVPN.desktop’ file in /usr/share/applications folder. Don’t forget to give executable permission to the ‘kopenvpn’ file—this goes for Porteus Linux users too!

How to Use KopenVPN After Installation?

After you get everything installed, you can find KopenVPN in your Start Menu of KDE4 desktop environment. For quick access, feel free to add a shortcut to your panel or run the ‘kopenvpn’ command right from your terminal emulator.

Selecting Your Configuration File

A KDialog window will pop up asking you to choose an .opvn file. Once you've selected it, a connection will be created automatically. You’ll get notified if your OpenVPN connection was successful or not!
