What is LAM/MPI FOR LINUX?

LAM/MPI for Linux

LAM/MPI for Linux is an implementation of the Message Passing Interface (MPI) parallel standard designed for clusters. It provides a persistent runtime environment for parallel programs and supports all of MPI-1 and a significant portion of MPI-2, including dynamic functions, C bindings, one-way communication, and MPI-IO.

Key Features:

  • Compatible with clusters

  • Persistent runtime environment

  • Support for MPI-1 and portions of MPI-2

  • Dynamic functions and C bindings

  • One-way communication and MPI-IO

Despite being in maintenance mode, LAM/MPI continues to receive bug fixes and critical patches. However, the development focus has shifted to the next-generation MPI implementation, Open MPI.

Users are encouraged to consider migrating to Open MPI due to its enhanced features and performance improvements. Migrating should be straightforward by recompiling and relinking applications with Open MPI.
