What is MOCKS FOR LINUX?

MOCKS

MOCKS is a super simple and easy-to-configure SOCKS 5 server that follows RFC1928 standards. It's pretty neat because it supports upstream proxy connections and lets you set up client filtering rules based on IP addresses!

Easy Setup

You know what's great about MOCKS? You don't even need a make file to get it running! Just use the build script included in your package (called build) or run this command:

gcc -lnsl -o mocks child.c error.c misc.c socksd.c up_proxy.c

Managing Your Server

Once you have it all set up, controlling MOCKS is a breeze. Here's how:

• Starting the server:

./mocks start

• Shutting it down:

./mocks shutdown

• If you need help:

./mocks --help

What's New?

This release has some cool updates:

• - We added support for upstream proxy connections! Now, MOCKS can relay traffic by acting like a client for another proxy server. Just keep in mind that BIND commands aren't fully relayed yet. The supported protocols are HTTP CONNECT, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5. For more details, check out the UP_PROXY_* variables in mocks.conf.


• - There's now an IP-based client filter! This means MOCKS, can reject connections from certain clients based on your filtering rules. Look at the FILTER_* variables in mocks.conf.


• - You can also specify which IP address MOCKS, should listen on for connections. By default, it listens on all interfaces (like MOCKS 0.0.1). Check out the MOCKS_ADDR variable in mocks.conf for more info.


• - We've fixed some include issues that were causing warnings from GCC.
